As the 2013 racing season is coming to an end, racing championships are poised for a thrilling climax. BTB’s customers have been battling at the forefront of the UK’s premier series all year. In the British Touring Car Championship, the adoption of new technical regulations have guaranteed close and exciting competition at every round which have all been televised live on ITV4. The New Generation Touring Cars’ performance is closely monitored and controlled by the organisers, who can impose weight and power restrictions to avoid domination by any one team, car or driver. Therefore, meticulous preparation and attention to detail is the key to consistent points scoring throughout the year. The engine suppliers routinely benchmark different exhausts during dyno tests, so BTB have to be the best to be selected for use on the cars. BTB supply both exhaust manifolds and systems for several front running teams and therefore can have somewhat divided loyalties as to which way the championship is ultimately decided. Above all we all hope that the excitement goes all the way to the last lap at Brands Hatch on October 13th.

Loyal BTB customer Plan B Motorsport won the prestigious Spa 6 Hours for Pre 1965 sports cars with their ex Scuderia Filipinetti GT40 for the second time this year. It was the pinnacle of yet another successful year for the driver pairing of Leo Voyazides and Simon Hadfield, who have won scores of historic events together in a wide range of different cars. The result was a fitting tribute to team boss Bruce Stevens who sadly passed away earlier in the year. The famously well organised Bruce will be sorely missed by all at BTB, not least because, he always booked his cars in for work to be done well ahead of our busiest times of year to ensure he got the very best service.

This is a point worth making to anyone who is planning to improve their cars in advance of next year, as workshop bookings are easier to fit in during October and November than our traditionally busy months early in the New Year. It is also much better to carry out development work on your cars when they are still in one piece, before they are stripped for engine rebuilds and the like. BTB has seen continued demand for historic racers needing silencers to allow them to test and race their cars at increasingly noise restricted circuits. As this trend is set to continue in 2014, the time to act is now if you want a properly engineered silencing solution for your car.

An increasingly important part of BTB’s business is in the development and fabrication of prototype parts for the Automotive Industry. As most of this work is shrouded in secrecy for understandable reasons we cannot reveal specifics of the sort of work that we do for our clients in this sector. However a quick scan through our recent design and development log, reveals the diversity of projects that we have been involved in. Recent engine configurations that we have supplied exhausts for include single, twin, triple and four cylinder types, as well as both V and inline 6s. We also had V8s ranging from 3.0litre to 8litre both with and without superchargers and/or turbos! Whilst some of these engines have been coupled with electric motors either as range extenders or as part of a hybrid powertrain, it appears that there is still some life left in the internal combustion engine yet.
